Random Ship
Facts (Courtesy of 3rd Engineer Phil Lessard) |
|
| |
Saturday, 17 June
We
actually do not have governors installed on our ship’s service
diesel generators. The mechanism that controls the fuel rack on the
engine is really just an actuator. The actual governor is
electronic and is housed in the main electrical distribution panel.
The governor itself receives a signal from the actuator, and based
on how it is communicating with the other generators on the line, it
will send a signal back to the actuator telling it whether to
increase or decrease the fuel to the engine.

Answer: |

Yes we do. We have both electrically
powered dial (or pushbutton) phones located in all rooms, offices
and public spaces. In fact more than 230 phones. When in
Castine they are tied in to 9 "trunk lines" from the shore. We
are currently upgrading the switchboard part to digital.
We also have sound powered phones that do not
require power to operate. These are used for emergency
communications and work similarly to the old tin can on a string
device. |
