| CAPTAIN'S LOG
I have lined up a series of GUEST EDITORS
which will grace this space on some of our remaining days. A
mix of Faculty, staff and students to give you a bit of a different
perspective of Training Cruise 2006.
Today's Guest Editor is
Kevin Quirion, Cadet Chief Engineer

2/C Engineer’s
Perspective
The final countdown has
begun. It is hard to believe we are now counting in days, not
weeks, and surely not months, until the end of cruise, until we can
see our families and friends again.
Cruise 2006 has been a
great experience for many, full of memories that I know I will have
for the rest of my life. Visiting the great European ports that we
all speak of is something that I will cherish for a very long time,
especially being able to do it with some of my closest friends.
During my junior Cruise,
I have been privileged to sail as the Cadet Chief Engineer. It has
been an awesome experience, and one that I will never forget. It
has given me the opportunity to develop my engineering and
leadership skills. There has yet to be a dull moment on this ship.
Between Main Engine repairs, and some other small fixes, we have
all been very busy, keeping Cruise 2006 on schedule, and I am
fortunate to be one of the many hands to make it possible.
Now that our 4th
and Final Holiday has come and gone, our 2/C Flashlights are done,
and Portland is just off the horizon, we can almost say that our
Junior Cruise has come and gone as well. It is hard to believe that
we have come so far, in what seems to be a blink of an eye. It
feels like just yesterday, I was a Cruising 4/C, seeing the world
for the first time, and developing my ‘sea legs’. Now those ‘sea
legs’ are good and strong, ready to take on what ever the sea may
toss at me.
I would just like to
thank everyone that made Cruise 2006 possible; Ship’s Crew,
Regimental Staff, and Training Professors; each contributing their
own way to help prepare us for our Coast Guard Exams, and eventually
a life at sea.
And if I may, I would
like to thank my family and friends back home. If it weren’t for
you, I know for sure that I would not be able to have come as far as
I have. The support that I have received is great, and something
that everyone should have the privilege to share.
Thank you,
2/C Kevin A. Quirion
