| CAPTAIN'S LOG
Now
Hear This.....Remove gangway, cast off all lines, get underway...
NOT
Despite our
fondest wish to sail from Castine this morning we were fooled by the
automation gremlins in the engine room. Last night there were
some funky readings on the monitors in the Engine Operating Station
and despite attempts to reboot the system and troubleshoot, the
Engineer's wound up with the "black screens of death" on all the
monitors.

"Black Screen of Death"
This morning
there are consultations going on with the "experts" and we are
endeavoring to get the technicians to Castine to work their magic.
Hopefully the delay will not exceed one or two days.
Fortunately we
have a couple of days of extra time built into our schedule so even
if we sail on Friday we will still make our first port on schedule.
Granted it is
a big disappointment, especially for the crew who have worked so
hard to recover from our Katrina Relief deployment and get
everything ready to make this Cruise. Last minute delays are
never fun and the only consolation is that it is practice for the
real world of shipping where just such delays, though not common
place, really do occur. It is something that seaman have dealt
with throughout the ages and I suspect will continue to do so.
It brings to mind the NASA Space Shuttle delays.......
